Internet and Cell Phones Take Over Long Distance Communication
The way we communicate through long distance ways have certainly changed within the past few years. In the beginning, people had to wait weeks and even months to receive a letter in the mail. No more snail mail is required in today’s fast-paced society. With the use of the internet and cell phones, we can now communicate with each other literally instantaneously.
The internet has provided us a way to communicate with each other, not only instantaneously, but also face to face. Web cameras and programs such as iChat and Skype, have created a way for people to speak over their microphones to each other, while seeing that person’s face on their computer screen. One person in New York, USA can speak to another person in Paris, France face to face at an almost instantaneous speed for hardly any cost at all. For Mac users, iChat is free from one Macbook to the next. Skype also allows for web camera communication for prices much less than you can get from your telephone provider. Skype also allows for telephone conversations so even if you don’t have a web camera, you can still communicate like you would if you were using a telephone.
Internet Phones
The internet also allows for instant messaging, a popular way for text communication. Instant message programs such as those attached to your Gmail or Facebook account, allow you to communicate with friends and family across the world for no money at all.
Cellular phones have also created a new way to communicate. Most cell phones these days allow for picture and video messaging, so you can send pictures and videos you take from your phone to friends and family from all over. These messages can be sent directly to their personal cell phones or e-mail accounts.
