Internet Marketing – Trials and Tribulations Part One
I first entered the internet marketing field in 1996. There was an advertisement in the local paper for any investorwho wished to have this wonderful opportunity to make a fortune by advertising real estate on the net. (In the days before real estate.com). Ijumped right in because I could see that the Internet was going to be huge, and I wanted to be part of it.
Unfortunately for me, the principal did not have enough financial backing to install the necessary phone lines, so only one line was available for anyone to view a site. We struggled on for several months, but he eventually fled the country, owing money left, right and centre andI lost all my money. Listened to all the “I told you so” laughing up sleeves, “what will she get up to next”etc.etc. I slunk into a hole and stayed put, waiting for next.
Well, next came around in 2005. I bought an e-commerce site offofeBay. (I can hear you all laughing).Took me some time to figure out how to cope with adding and deleting items, once I had got the site hosted andthat was quite an experience in itself. C Panel and I do not have a congenial relationship. The hosting people used to dread my calls. You could hear the change in voice tone when they recognised my voice, which they heard regularly for several weeks. (It was difficult to hide the Australian accent).
Everything was sorted out eventually, however, and once again I was on my way. I was buying products from all over the world and was starting to make some sales. I also started getting a lot of emails, affiliate marketing was going to be the next big and the best thing, so why not buy this, that and the other software and make a fortune, selling other peoples stuff. I could not wait to open my emails each day. How rude was “The Rick Jerk” going to be today? Then we moved house.
The new house did not have its own telephone service cable (we had a paired line) and the cheaper Internet service provider I was with could not connect me to the Internet without the national provider flicking a switch, or something. Promises every day by the national serverto my provider that tomorrow wouldbe the day they would throw the switch. Two and a half months later, I changed my provider to the national service and lo and behold, the next day the internet was on. In the meantime, my e-commerce business was down the tube, gurgler, whatever. It was finished, kaput. Once again, I had lost all my money. More “I told you so's”, “when are you going to learn”, etc. etc. Well, I slunk back into my hole, once again, waiting for next.
Watch out for Part Two.
My name is Marie and I live in Queensland, Australia, with my husband and Siamese cat. My husband has agreed not to look at our credit card for the next three months, (what a darling) and I am in the middle of building a website, called Solar and Wind Power. The url is http://www.enesolarpanels.com It is a steep learning curve, but very rewarding, when you see what's possible. Especially when it is several decades since you left school. I have recently commenced a WordPress blog and the address is http://enesolarpanels.com/blog I hope you will come and visit.
