If you have a website and are trying to increase your standings in the search engine rankings, you are looking at two things: being relevant and being important. The way to increase your importance is by getting backlinks. Here are 7 of the best ways to fast link popularity.

1. Important Links
You need to have important links—that is, links from important websites—for them to benefit you. Random links from all your friends won’t help.

2. Relevant Links
You should also obtain links from similar websites. For instance, if you own a remodeling business a link from a daycare center probably won’t do you much good. But a link from a hardware store would.

3. Don’t Cheat
Don’t trade links with people—the search engines pick up on this tactic, which could hurt your fast link popularity.

4. Offer Freebies
One way to get people to give you links is to give them something in return. You could try discounts for their employees, or even trade articles they can post on their websites.

Sometimes people will create other websites just to link up to their own. While this can get expensive, it’s also a no-no. If your site and business are good, fast link popularity should come easier than that.

6. Try Asking
If you have a good website that someone would feel good about linking to, sometimes they will just do it. Pick up the phone and call to ask.
